Memorial Day Weekend Training

No group picture this time but 36 of us headed out Saturday morning for 11.3 sunny miles with just a bit of a breeze.  The photo above is part of the group heading out on Bothell Everett Highway.

Our first stop was Heron Park in Mill Creek where we took advantage of the picnic tables for some good stretching after the hill that got us there!

Tired of walking with cars buzzing by, I routed us underneath the power lines on this service road.  Something a bit different for a change!

We couldn't figure out how to but 11 fingers up so instead you get 10 fingers and a tongue!

Next week - our first official back to back training walks!  Hope you'll be there!

The Flamingos are here!

As promised here are some photos of the girls we created last Saturday.  These gals are still in the process of being created, but you get the idea!

In the beginning there were sad, plain flamingos but these creative folks were about to put an end to their plight!

This one gets to explore her inner belly dancer.

And aren't all flamingos a princess at heart?

This gal in on her way to being a showgirl!

And here's my flock busy at work this morning on the back porch of a friends house.

If you need instructions on how to create your own flock, drop me a note at kellam83@att.net.

Scenes from Howarth Park Training Walk - 5/16/09

The pictures from today's training walk were too beautiful (and fun) not to post immediately!  Enjoy!

The entire group getting ready to set out on 10 miles.

The first hill...of many hills today.

More hills but look at that incredible sunshine!

You don't even mind climbing a hill when you have a view like this!

The group did a great job of hydrating today.  This was a photo op I couldn't pass up.   Doesn't Becky look happy to have that new roll of TP?  Thanks McD's!

10 miles...DONE!

These beauties are busy working at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe all season long.  The cell phones & printer cartridges that they collect will be recycled and the $$ raised will help fund the fight to end breast cancer.

Centennial Trail Training Walk

I just realized I hadn't posted this photo yet. How nice of the cherry trees to bloom in the right color for us! We had a great group for this 10 mile walk. Were you there?

Dri-Wicking Team Walking Shirts & Hats

By popular demand here is a photo of me sporting our team hat and team walking shirt (v-neck pink). Ignore the wine in my hand and ignore the extra tummy that seems to have sprouted above my fanny pack - probably as a result of the previously mentioned wine! :-)

Not sure why I'm starting this series with my own mug...but here I am.  Eight miles down...hundreds to go.

Walking along Mukilteo Boulevard.  I LOVE photos of walkers along the road like this.

Hey folks...I'm in the photo this time!  :-)

Today's route is one of my very favorite training routes.  It's absolutely beautiful with lots of great scenery to keep your mind off the fact that you are walking up and down and up and down plenty of hills.  The group was a great mix of returning walkers and brand new friends and we had a great time today.  The weather held off just long enough for us to get all 8 miles in - no rain!

Flamingo Work Party

Saturday, May 16 - Flamingo Work Party
Time: 2 - 5pm
Location: Penny's house, South Everett

It’s a flamingo work party! What? That’s right – a flamingo work party.

Are you looking for an out-of-the-box way to extend your fundraising contacts? Do you feel like you’ve exhausted all your known sources for fundraising but still have a ways to go to reach your minimum? Flocking could be just the answer you are looking for.

Simply put, flocking is placing 2 beautiful flamingo “girls” on the porches of unsuspecting “flockees” and then removing them for donations. The flocking victim then directs you where to place the girls next and the circle continues. The best part is that you only really need to know the first flockee. Most of the donations you raise this way will be from people you don’t even know. A teammate and I did this last year and raised hundreds of dollars – giggling the whole time!

Join me Saturday, May 16th from 2-5pm at my South Everett home to learn more about flocking and to give “birth” to your brand new flock of girls. We’ll start by learning how to flock and then work on decorating our new girls.

Bring a minimum of 2 plastic pink flamingos* and plastic buckets for them to stand in with any/all of the following to decorate your girls. Glue gun, super glue, false eyelashes, party favors, doll clothes, $1 store flowers, ribbon, tulle, and anything else you can think of that might become a flamingo costume. We’ll pool our resources and share ideas while we work on our new flocks.
RSVP to kellam83@att.net and I will respond with my address and driving directions. Please drop me a note with any questions.

* Pink flamingos can be purchased online through site like EBay for $10-15/pair. Be sure you are getting full sized flamingos when you order. Plastic buckets can be picked up cheap at the dollar store. The dollar store is a great place to shop for flamingo costumes and accessories.
