Last weekend many of the team enjoyed a fun filled campout/training weekend at Fort Ebey on Whidbey Island. Friday night we walked 5 miles down from our campsites to the beach for this beautiful sunset. After some chatting we found our tents and settled in for our first night. Lessons learned from Friday? Heat wraps are good. New sleeping bags are good. Hats rock! New friends are awesome!
Saturday morning dawned foggy and cool but with a warm breakfast of yummy french toast from our incredible Crew we were ready to tackle the 21 miles ahead of us. We walked a little bit of everything on Saturday - forest trails, bike paths, sidewalks and country roads.

The views during the day were breathtaking and there were photo ops galore!

Coupeville was dressed in pink for our arrival with pink balloons and pink ribbons up and down our route. Several businesses had posters in their windows sharing their support of the 3 Day walkers and we were very grateful to Miriam's - a local coffee shop that handled all 50+ walkers multiple times during the weekend with a smile and great service!

After our wonderful Crew served us a nice fresh lunch in Coupeville City Park we hit the road again to enjoy even more beautiful scenery....oh, and then there was the ice cream!

Back in camp a few of us took advantage of a cool foot soak in the kiddie pool. After dinner of fractured tacos and banana boats we visited for quite awhile around the fire before we each wandered into our tents for another night under the stars. Lessons learned from Saturday? Hydration is important. Blisters happen. 21 miles is shorter than you think when you are walking with friends.

Sunday morning we relunctantly packed up our gear and said goodbye to Fort Ebey. Today's walk was 11 miles and started at Miriam's. The sky was clear and the temps just a bit warmer than the day before so we were even more incredibly grateful for our awesome crew. They kept us supplied with water, ice and of course Red Vines!
After a fun weekend of new friendships, new discoveries and a new glimpse into what life on the 3 Day may be like, we climbed into our cars and headed home. Tired, sunburnt, blistered, but with smiles that said it all.
Thanks Whidbey Walkers for still another great campout!
